The Tree of Liberty must be refreshed…

Thomas Jefferson once said, “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” That is what is needed now. We have those who think they are patriots to a man who is a tyrant. The tree of liberty must be refreshed.

I have discovered that my desire to emigrate to Canada is foiled by my age. The have a cut off at age 55, with a six year wait to become a citizen. It will take me two years to get there, financially. That will put me at age 50. There is no way to do it with the current rules. Alas.

The only thing I can think of is to somehow help America get on track. She needs so much help, morally, ethically, socially. Americans fear anything social. While a national health care system is direly needed. If our taxes are spent appropriately and not lining politicians’ pockets, then things will get done. We have to work for the betterment of society and not just the individual. If that makes me a Socialist, so be it.

America is not my home. I have never felt right here. Fate made me an American citizen. I have to make the most of it. I can only hope that our children can bring this country back to where it belongs. The whole system is corrupt and needs to be replaced. We, the People, have the right to replace it. Most live in fear of the government. We need no longer live in fear.

We need to use our displeasure with the way things are as an impetus for change. Others have attempted change and have faced resistance. I say remove those who dissent from office and start fresh with new minds willing to take this country, this planet into the future.

Utopia it may never be. But a worthy society where we can grow and live in peace is achievable, if we allow it. We have to allow it. It is our right to have the government we deserve, not merely the best one we can afford to pay for.
